Advice on weight loss

Postby falc0n » Mon May 31, 2010 6:18 pm

Hey there. I thought I'd register on this site to see if I could get any advice about a weight loss plan I'm looking to continue follow, which I also hope will turn into a daily habit sometime soon.

I'm 5ft 11, 20 years of age and weigh 14s 5lbs. I'm looking to get to around 12s. I've been using it for 2 weeks now 6 days a week and I've managed to lose 4lbs, and averaging 5km per day on the treadmill. I do 3 days of interval running and 3 days of inclined power walking and my sessions last about 40-55 minutes. I've included more fruit in my diet and drinking less fizzy drinks and junk food, also alot of water.

What I'm really trying to ask is, is 6days a week for 40-55 on the treadmill too much? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Wow keep up the hard work.

Remember to add in resistance work in your program too.
Alot of people neglect resistance training as they think they will gain too much muscle but trust me.....guys have trouble gaining muscle and we really bust our asses and it's harder than you think.

Resistance training helps increase bone density, preventing osteoperosis (brittle bone disease)
It can also increase your metabolism, as muscle is a live tissue that needs energy to work.
It's also more fun that slogging on the treadmill for hours.

The problem with too much cardio on the treadmill is that it will burn too much of your muscle, (it takes alot of cardio to do this) if you lose muscle then your metabolism will drop.

Depending on the intensity level of your program it's said calorie burning can be elevated for up to 24-36 hours after you've stopped training using resistance work.

Keep it up with the diet as that's the key to getting the body you want. Really try to control the amount of sugar you're taking in, as too much sugar secretes the hormone insulin.

Every time you eat sugar insulin is released to bring your "blood sugar" back down to normal. Due to the flood of insulin in your system, you'll soon crash, and feel the need for more sugar.

Over time, you're body will just have excess insulin in the blood and you won't get the same effect so it has to release more insulin from the pancreas.
This ends up making you insulin resistant, and you'll end up storing fat rather than burning it.

So, fruits are still okay to have as they have fibre with it.
Fruit juices aren't as good because you've got rid of the fibre, yes even home made ones.
Vegetables are still carbs, have plenty of them as well as fruits.

Grains and starch, try to reduce as much as possible.

Sorry for the essay. Just wanted to help.
Good luck.
